1st national STEAM congress

On 12 February, 2019, GEIST International Foundation organized 1st National STEAM Congress, first of its kind in Bangladesh. This is the first time ever in the country where nationally recognized and revered teachers, enthusiasts and learners were under one roof and discussed about STEAM education and how it can be implemented fruitfully in the education system of Bangladesh. Deputy Minister of Education, Mr. Mohibul Hassan Choudhury Nowfel was present and also gave an exciting speech on how the trend in education is constantly becoming more and more practical and out of the book oriented and in order to survive in such a fast moving globalized and completitive world, the more deeper the learning is, the more learned the students become and the more they contribute to the country in the long run. STEAM education does just that. Alongside the Deputy Minister, officials from National Curriculum & Textbook Board were also there to admit the necessity to change the educational system by including STEAM education. Moreover, teachers, international education specialists, educators, state alumni and media individuals were also there to discuss on the issue.

The activities undetaken by GEIST in science education will help us make science and technology related knowledge more attractive to students. If we can expose them to scientific ideas at a very early age to the cutting edge and interesting gadgets and apparatuses, the interest level will go up among the young students.

Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics Education, that is, STEAM education should be included in the education for students from primary, if need be, from kindergartens level. Because such subjects are a part of our lives, they are everywhere.

First of all, we must admit that these five subjects forming STEAM are not separate disciplines. These subjects are trans-disciplinary and cross-cutting, not inter-disciplinary.
